The Red Sack

Book 1 Chapter 1

Roland has blond hair and brown eyes. His blood was blue like the sea and strong like a sea bull. The son splashes his almost face as he rows his boat. Rowing comes naturally to Roland. Sometimes he will say his name as he rows and if he says it aloud enough times, it will start to sound like “row on”. He felt this was a sign and message from his mother. Roland is not an orphan or spoiled runaway. He just felt as though he had to leave and then never returned. It was so long ago that he no longer remembered what exactly he felt or why, just the thought that he must leave his home and quickly.
Roland was impulsive in a perfectly logical way. Logical because his actions were thought out and had an ultimate goal. Impulsive because they came to him suddenly and he did not understand them. He also did not realize the goal until he met it.
He continued to row until he came to a dock with no apparent houses nearby. Roland scrambled out of the boat and tied it to the dock. As he hurried on shore, his pet jumped out of the boat following him. Roland walked through a small wood and into the middle of the field. There he looked east and then west lining himself up at some invisible line. Then looking North and South he adjusted his position again. Suddenly he fell to the ground and began to dig with his hands. His pet saw and joined in. Roland and his pet unearthed a red sack. Quickly he grabbed the sack and refilled the hole, then swiftly went back to the boat and rowed away. The red sack sat on his lap.
